by Chris Woodley directed by Andrew Beckett I am going to talk about homosexuality in my lesson Val. Because you stand there saying that we arent allowed to, when really... I think you dont like gay people. The laugh-out-loud, thoughtful and inventive Next Lesson charts 18 years in the life of a fictional South London school. In 1988, 14 year old Michael comes out as gay. Later he returns as a teacher. In the background: the notorious Section 28 of Thatchers Local Government Act, which prohibited schools from promoting homosexuality. Next Lesson is Chris Woodleys much-praised play about being gay at school: male and female, staff and students. It was first staged in a sell-out run at the Pleasance Theatre. Enjoy Andrew Beckett's brand new production.
