Immerse yourself in history, art and culture at our popular Lunchtime Lectures. Doors open at 12.45. Lectures begin at 13.15 and last approximately one hour. Writer Martin Gayford explores the development of painting in post-war London and the interlinking friendships, shared experiences, rivalries and artistic concerns among a number of acclaimed artists. He will also reveal the influence of teachers on the London painters including David Bomberg, whose work appears in the Gallerys current display One Unbroken Stream alongside that of his student Frank Auerbach. Martin Gayford is art critic for The Spectator. His books include Man with a Blue Scarf: On Sitting for a Portrait by Lucian Freud, David Hockney: A Bigger Message and Rendez-vous with Art (with Philippe de Montebello), and he is also the co-author with David Hockney of A History of Pictures, all published by Thames & Hudson.
