Polari Literary Salon with Philip Hensher @ Southbank Centre
London on 26 Jun - 7:30 pm

The renowned LGBTQ+ literary salon returns to Southbank Centre, with Philip Hensher reading from his critically acclaimed new novel The Friendly Ones. He is joined by Kate Bradbury, Derek Farrell, Amanda Jennings and Polis Loizou. All the authors read from their latest works, and we also announce the longlist for The Polari First Book Prize 2018. Polari is curated and hosted by acclaimed author and journalist Paul Burston. Philip Hensher is widely regarded as one of the most significant voices in LGBTQ+ narratives. He has written widely across fiction and periodical as regular contributor, columnist and reviewer for newspapers and weekly such as The Guardian, The Spectator, The Mail on Sunday and The Independent. He won the Somerset Maugham Award for his novel Kitchen Venom in 1996, and the Stonewall Prize for the Journalist of the Year in 2007. In 2008, Hensher's semi-autobiographical novel The Northern Clemency was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize. In 2012, he won first prize in the German Travel Writers Award and was shortlisted for the Green Carnation Prize. The following year, his novel Scenes from Early Life was shortlisted for the Green Carnation Prize, and awarded the Ondaatje Prize. Hensher appears on the jury for the Scotiabank Giller Prize in 2018. Belvedere Rd, Lambeth,
