Velvet-Club Connecting Lesbians & Bi-women around the World

Our monthly LGBT+ film club Out At Clapham has teamed up with local art gallery Studio Voltaire to help celebrate the life and work of the late Australian artist David McDiarmid. McDiarmid (19521995) was an artist and designer as well as a prominent political activist and pioneer of Australias gay liberation movement. He was artistic director of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in the 1980s, which celebrates its 40th Anniversary on March 4th. McDiarmid's vibrant artworks Rainbow Aphorisms (1993-1995), are currently on public display at Studio Voltaire, on the facade of neighbouring LGBTQ+ venue The Two Brewers across the London underground network and at other temporary locations across Clapham and Brixton, in partnership with Art on the Underground & This is Clapham Out At Clapham continue this celebration of McDiarmid's work with the short documentary film Toxic Queen, made by his close friend and filmmaker Fiona Cunningham-Reid, followed by Stephan Elliott's bright, glitzy and fabulously queer Australian road movie The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Well be capturing the spirit of Mardis Gras in the Bar from 8pm with the music of Ozzie Pop Princesses Kylie, Dannii and this years festival headliner, Cher!
