Paul Levy, writer, journalist, broadcaster and the subject of two portraits by Howard Hodgkin, discusses the artists approach to portraiture with writer and critic Jeremy Treglown. Paul Levy is an American-born writer and journalist, whose publications encompass art and food. Following books on the writer Lytton Strachey and the philosopher G.E. Moore, as well as literary reviews for the Observer, in 1980 he became the newspapers food and wine critic and introduced the British public to French nouvelle cuisine. Subsequently, he became arts correspondent for the Wall Street Journal. Jeremy Treglown's books include biographies of Roald Dahl, Henry Green (Dictionary of Literary Biography Award), and V. S. Pritchett (shortlisted for the Whitbread Award for Biography and the Duff Cooper Prize for Literature). A former editor of The Times Literary Supplement, he has taught at Oxford, Princeton and Warwick, and has written for The New Yorker and Granta among other papers and magazines. He lives in London.
