Gays The Word: We Go Around in the Night and are Consumed by Fire – Julies Grant
London on 19 May - 19:00

"Original, moving and written in a blistering prose style that is thrilling to read, this book is the real, raw deal." - Julia Bell Jules Grant in conversation with Julia Bell discussing Jules's debut novel We Go Around in the Night and are Consumed by Fire. We've been massively excited about this book coming out for ages. It's a brilliant and gritty contemporary gangster lesbian revenge thriller. We know, sounds fantastic right? Please RSVP here on Facebook. Doors 7pm with a 3 door charge but free refreshments. The Book This game-changing literary revenge thriller, voiced by lesbian gangster Donna and her precocious god-daughter Aurora, is steeped in the violence and politics of Manchester's criminal underworld. Best friends since they met as children in care, Donna and Carla run the allfemale Bronte Close Gang, carving out their own empire in the toughest streets of Manchester. Unlike the hot-headed men who make up most of the city's gangs, frequently caught up in violent turf warfare, the women keep their heads down running their business their way: partying on Canal Street, selling drugs in perfume atomisers in club toilets, and working as cleaners to account for their illegal income. But when Carla is gunned down for seducing the wife of a local gangster, it is left to Donna to keep her ten-year-old daughter, Aurora, out of sight and out of the care system, galvanise the gang and mastermind a killer plan to achieve retribution - all the while reeling at the loss of her soulmate. An epic of friendship, survival and finding out how far you'd go to avenge and protect those you love, We Go Around In The Night And Are Consumed By Fire is a thrillingly original crime novel that unfolds at breakneck speed - at once furious, tender and heartbreaking. Published 28th April by the brilliant literary press Myriad Editions The title is inspired by graffiti on the Hulme overpass in Manchester, and is a translation of the famous Latin palindrome 'in girum imus nocte et consumimur igni'. About the authors / speakers: Jules Grant is from Manchester. She has an MA in Creative Writing from Birkbeck College, University of London. She worked as a barrister for over twenty years.
