For more information, follow this link. Priest on Trial (Bloomsbury, 1994) is a disturbing book about the justice system at a time when church and media are obsessed with sex. Determined to continue working with AIDS sufferers in New York City without church support, Father Lynch remained undiscouraged. "Being identified with the oppressed', he has observed, "means that I am going to be oppressed". The book documents Lynch's unjust accusation by a former student and non-jury trial argued before Burton Roberts, a judge known for bluntness and impartiality. What unfolds in the court transcripts is the riveting testimony, which branded Lynch's accuser a pathological liar. Vindicated, Lynch clearly believes that right-wing Catholic groups and church officials were behind his indictment.
