Meet the Author: Father Bernard Lynch
London on 28 Apr - 18:30 to 20:30

Father Bernard Lynch, author of If It Wasn't Love and Priest on Trial will talk about his work Free Event Monday 28 April 2014 6.30 - 8.30pm Join us to meet priest, author and campaigner for the rights of gay people and HIV/AIDS sufferers, Father Bernard Lynch. If It Wasn't Love (Circle Books, 2012) is about Life, Love, Sexuality, Death and God. It is many people's stories, but most of all it is the personal story of Father Bernard Lynch. Here for the first time is a truth birthed from fear and oppression and redeemed by love. The moving personal odyssey of a brave, idealistic gay Catholic priest, from hope to despair and back to hope again, an inspiring testament of how truth, love and compassion triumphed over lies, hate and indifference. For more information, follow this link. Priest on Trial (Bloomsbury, 1994) is a disturbing book about the justice system at a time when church and media are obsessed with sex. Determined to continue working with AIDS sufferers in New York City without church support, Father Lynch remained undiscouraged. "Being identified with the oppressed', he has observed, "means that I am going to be oppressed". The book documents Lynch's unjust accusation by a former student and non-jury trial argued before Burton Roberts, a judge known for bluntness and impartiality. What unfolds in the court transcripts is the riveting testimony, which branded Lynch's accuser a pathological liar. Vindicated, Lynch clearly believes that right-wing Catholic groups and church officials were behind his indictment.
