Nine-year old Tracey loves her Aunty Ben. It doesnt matter to her that Aunty Ben is actually her uncle, or that hes a drag queen, because in Traceys family dressing up is for everyone! But when Ben meets her school friends, Tracey is shocked to discover that other peoples families can be very different to her own. Directed by Katherine Murphy and incorporating magical animations from artist Hanae Seida, Aunty Ben is a colourful and playful exploration of gender, family, love and happiness for all audiences aged 7+. Winner of the IdeasTap Brighton Fringe Award 2014, and the Doric Wilson Intercultural Dialogue Award at the 11th International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival. a charming tale of how, with a little more understanding, the world could be a much better place. Julian Caddy, Brighton Fringe Festival Director Super Paua is an Irish theatre company that makes brave, socially focused work for young audiences. Super Paua have collaborated on Aunty Ben with animator and graphic artist Hanae Seida, who has animation credits with Disney Japan, and on Oscar-nominated film The Illusionist (Ink.Digital, Scotland). An LGBT play for kids that is not only of huge social and political importance, but completely and utterly heart-lifting. Jessie Thompson, IdeasTap Our performance at Outburst Queer Arts Festival, Belfast, marks the re-launch of Aunty Ben, featuring famous Irish drag artist and musician Veda Beaux Reves. Veda was the winner of the 1999 Miss Alternative Ireland, and runs the weekly club night Space n Veda at Dublins most famous gay bar, The George.
