Sunderland Pride is Sunderland's dedicated lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans charity. On an annual basis the Sunderland Pride team executes planning of the Sunderland Pride event, held every September. Launched on September 23rd 2011, the first festival attracted around 2,000 people into the City Centre and gave many an opportunity to celebrate their sexuality in a safe environment while also promoting the diversity of the City. Throughout the year the charity also executes a number of events for the City's LGBT community which in the past has included the hugely successful Easter Pride, Walk with Pride, and the newly introduced Valentines event Love Your Sunderland Scene, which aims to attract more engagement around the Sunderland Scene, which takes place every Tuesday night in the nightlife area of the City, and has done for the last ten years. The event has successfully grown in size, and in 2013 reached a peak audience of over 3,000 Through use of advertising and engagement with new sponsors, which includes Stagecoach North East, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue and the lengthy support of Gentoo Sunderland. The event also added the successful Pride Breakfast which was hosted by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue and was attended by numerous individuals from Sunderland City Council and partner organisations that have supported the Sunderland Pride event for a number of years.
